“Don't worry,” Peri said. “In a few hours we will be back in our own bed and this disaster will be a fading memory.”

Cru closed her eyes while her girlfriend massaged her temples. “Whose idea was it to have a family reunion? Your relatives would put a Tyler Perry movie to shame.”

“I thought that staying in a hotel instead of with my parents would shield us from the drama.”

“Ha!”

Grandma Rose had insisted that both Uncle Mason's ex-wife and his current, estranged wife be invited to the reunion “so that all of the kids can meet each other and the rest of the family.” No one told Mason, and the fool showed up with his pregnant mistress. That was the touchstone that set off a week of drama. Peri had spent most of the time playing peacemaker. As soon as one situation calmed down, someone else would get their feathers ruffled.

When she wasn’t handing out tissue, Cru tried to stay as far away from the group therapy sessions which meant she spent a lot of time outside . . . with the men. Except for a lecherous cousin who had to be put in his place, the guys were okay. However, she never wanted to talk about barbeque or sports ever again.

Peri leaned over and her breast threatened to spill out of the tank top. “Don't worry,” she whispered. “I'll make it up to you.”

Though they weren’t closeted, Cru had struggled all week to keep her hands to herself—lest the less accepting family members be freaked out by a kiss. Even now, she fought the desire to reach out and stroke Peri’s luscious brown curves. “I’m fine,” she said. “You are the one who needs to relax.”

Just then, the airport shuttle pulled up. It was empty, so they took the prime seat up front. Cru thought she would have time for a quick catnap, but the driver had other ideas.

“My name is Rebecca and you girls are my first pick up this afternoon. Did y'all enjoy your stay?” She was an older lady who almost disappeared into her uniform. In an ideal world, she would be in some retirement village sipping mint juleps while a hunky attendant rubbed Ben Gay into her ankles

“Yes, ma'am,” Peri said, her southern accent front and center.

“Down here for business or pleasure?”

“Family reunion.”

“It’s nice that you girls come back to see your family. My sister and I can barely stay in the same room.”

Cru looked at Peri and rolled her eyes, but Rebecca didn’t notice. “Hope you come back soon. We really do need the tourists to keep coming in.”

Not one to favor silence, the driver continued. “Times are hard for us down here. Jobs are disappearing, there’s that foreclosure mess—it’s getting so that people will do almost anything for a dollar. Take the Westin Diplomat. It used to be one of our nicest hotels. Guess who had a convention there this week? Swingers!” She waited a bit. “You know, those people who swap wives and have orgies.
